Embark on an unforgettable 4-day expedition from the serene comfort of Amar Prem Haveli into the heart of one of Himachal's last hidden realms: the mystical valley of Dodra Kwar. This journey is crafted for the true adventurer, taking you over the formidable Chanshal Pass—a gateway that remains snowbound for half the year—into a world untouched by time. Witness the breathtaking landscapes of the Pabbar and Rupin valleys, explore ancient villages defined by unique Kath-Kuni architecture, and immerse yourself in a culture governed by ancient deities. This is more than a tour; it's a passage to a lost horizon, offering a rare glimpse into a resilient and authentic Himalayan way of life. Prepare for a raw, immersive experience that connects you deeply with nature, heritage, and the spirit of the mountains.
Your adventure begins as you arrive at the tranquil Amar Prem Haveli in Chaila Bhuin. Check into your comfortable lodgings and spend the day acclimatizing to the serene mountain environment. You can relax at the haveli, explore the immediate surroundings, or simply enjoy the panoramic views. In the evening, a detailed briefing about the exciting journey ahead will be provided, followed by a delicious dinner. This day is designed for relaxation and preparation for the expedition into the remote valleys.
Today is the most anticipated day of the journey. After breakfast, we begin the rugged drive from Kharapathar towards the formidable Chanshal Pass 3750m. The ascent is dramatic, with the landscape transforming into a high-altitude spectacle of vast meadows and breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After crossing the pass, we descend into the remote and stunningly beautiful Rupin Valley, the home of Dodra Kwar. We will explore the twin villages of Dodra and Kwar, perched on opposite slopes of the Rupin River. You'll witness the remarkable Kath-Kuni architecture, interact with the welcoming locals, and experience a way of life that has remained preserved for centuries due to its isolation. Overnight stay will be in a basic but clean local guesthouse or homestay in Kwar, offering an authentic cultural immersion.
Wake up to the crisp mountain air of the remote valley. After breakfast, we will spend the morning exploring the village of Dodra, known for its unique architecture and the sacred groves protected by the local deity, Jakh Devta. You'll have time to interact with the villagers and learn more about their unique customs and faith-based governance system, known as Devtantra. After this final cultural immersion, we begin the long and scenic journey back from Dodra Kwar, crossing the Chanshal Pass once more. The tour concludes as we drop you off at Shimla in the late evening for your onward journey, filled with memories of a world beyond the horizon.
